I just lost my momentum. You might think that’s ironic, since I JUST published an essay on how to keep your winning streaks alive. But as I see it, there are 3 ways this can happen:
You f*ck up (the worst)
External emergency (not ideal, but not in your control)
Seizing an opportunity (short term sacrifice, long term gain)
This was #3. My phone rang—I got the call to head to London. I spent two weeks there, seizing opportunities and securing long-term ROI that dwarfed anything I could’ve gained by staying “locked in.” In other words, I sacrificed momentum on the altar of quantum leaps. 100% worth it. I’d make that trade 10 times out of 10.

BUT… I’m still left with the issue of having lost my momentum, and needing to rebuild it. So, this is the “protocol” I’m using to get it back. And not only build back what I had, but build it back BIGGER, BETTER, and MORE POWERFUL than before.
This is an essential skill in your “winning tool kit.” The more adept you are at regaining momentum after losing it, the less you’ll be affected by external circumstances. And the more opportunities you’ll be able to SEIZE, knowing that you can reclaim your winning streak within days.
Before I get into it, i want to emphasise that momentum is the most powerful force in the universe. Few things will accelerate your ascension through life like building and protecting a powerful WINNING STREAK. It’s how you make 5 years of progress in 12 months. And besides the tangible benefits, it’s one of the most fun experiences you’ll ever have. Numbers go up. You breeze past goals you’ve ached after for MONTHS (maybe years). Life feels ELECTRIC.
Whether you’re already riding the sweet wave of momentum or not, there’s almost certainly something in here you’re not doing. Here are the 6 steps I’m taking:
Step 1: Reclaim Vitality
Energetic abundance is the precursor to operating effectively. Low motivation, being undisciplined, procrastination, and overall apathy towards your life aren’t mental problems, they’re physical ones. In other words, you shouldn’t attribute to “who you are” things that are really caused by physical disfunction.
While I was in London, I got terrible sleep, drank alcohol, and ate out every night (amazing food, but no control over what oils/ingredients they used). The result = i put on 5lbs in 2 weeks. Lots of that is inflammation i.e. Holding more water weight. But the result is the same. Feeling tired, sluggish, unmotivated, etc. So the first step here is reclaiming vitality.
How do we increase vitality and reclaim the LIFEFORCE energy required to execute our mission? We go back to the basics. The basics = increase nutrient density & minimise systemic inflammation.
Increasing nutrient density:
Only eating whole foods
Lots of fruit, red meat, bone broth (homemade), raw honey, milk, raw carrots, coconut oil
A little liver, eggs, well cooked broccoli, butter
Minimising systemic inflammation:
Getting 8hrs quality sleep every night
Eliminating all processed/toxic food (inc. no seed oils)
Daily exercise (3x resistance training days, 10k steps on rest days)
As much sunlight as possible, especially first thing in the morning
Zero alcohol
(NOT advice, this is what works for me after YEARS of trial & error + experimentation.)
That’s the 80/20 of reclaiming vitality. 2 weeks of STRICT adherence to those habits and I feel like I could run through brick wall. Colours get brighter. Birds chirp louder. And I have the ENERGY and MENTAL CLARITY required to execute the mission with the ferocity it deserves.
Step 2: Reclaim Subconscious Alignment
Subconscious alignment is one of the most powerful yet least talked about “hacks” for winning. Here’s how it works:
Your subconscious mind is a supercomputer (1000x more powerful than your conscious mind)
At any given time, there’s a SINGLE dominant thought in your mind
Your subconscious is working 24/7 on the dominant thought in your mind, and reveals solutions/ideas through flashes of insight/inspiration when your focus is relaxed (e.g. in the shower or on a walk)
Your subconscious is like the Terminator. It doesn’t stop, doesn’t get tired, and it is ALWAYS working. Paul Graham, founder of Y Combinator, once said “it's a disaster to let the wrong idea become the top one in your mind.” It’s a DISASTER. Take that seriously. You lose out on SO much when you don’t make this a priority. And you gain an instant advantage when you do.
I’ve rigorously experimented with this for over a year, and in January I figured it out. I started getting ideas and solutions “airdropped” to me throughout the day & especially on my walks. My instagram page “History of Winning” was one of these airdrops, and it’s grown over 250k followers since 3rd January (68 days ago at the time of writing).
Okay so HOW do you do this? How do you make your MISSION the dominant thought in your mind?
Here’s the most effective process I’ve found:
Audit your thoughts - Find out what the dominant thought in your mind currently is via taking a shower, going for a walk, or lying in bed staring at the ceiling and letting your mind wander.
Eliminate cheap dopamine - The subconscious will always prioritise problems with big payoffs and minimal effort. Cheap dopamine sources hijack this system, tricking your brain into obsessing over meaningless problems. If you want to change the dominant thought in your mind, you HAVE to eliminate these distractions. Not easy, but essential to making this work.
Focus relentlessly on your ONE goal - Allow it to consume you. Take daily action. Write down your plan. Practice visualising what it’ll feel like when you win. The more consistently you direct your attention and effort to your SINGLE objective, the more your subconscious will prioritise it.
Create positive feedback loops - Stack mini wins to reinforce all these habits. The first “mini-win” will be when you let your thoughts wander and notice your brain is working on the mission. BOOM. Huge success. From there, track your key metrics, and celebrate every small victory as PROOF that you’re reclaiming your winning streak.
KEY: If you just “think about” doing this, it’ll NEVER happen. When you lose momentum and you get reacquainted with comfort, your brain will pull all sorts of tricks to keep you there. If the intention is weak, you will perpetually kick the can down the road. “I’ll do it tomorrow” = I’ll do it NEVER.
MAKE THE INTENTION STRONGER. Write it down 5x. Tell your Mum. Stand in the mirror and say it to yourself out loud. Go cold turkey on social media for a couple days. Follow the vitality protocol (see above). RECLAIM YOUR BOREDOM. Literally allocate time in your day for doing nothing. Treat it like a gym session. Get to the point where you’re desperate for some stimulation, then keep going (doing nothing).
Lowering your baseline level of stimulation isn’t fun, and your brain will do anything it can to keep you stuck. This requires a seismic conscious effort for 1-2 days, then you’re set. Combine this with working on the mission in a deep, focused state, and you’ll achieve subconscious alignment fast.
Remember, hard = good. Hard = most people won’t do it. When you’re back in the “creative sweet spot” where ideas are firing and insights are being airdropped to you, you’ll know it was worth it.
Step 3: Fix Weaknesses
Losing momentum = severing your connection to the previous routine. When you sever connection to your routine, you get a rare opportunity to see things that you can’t when you’re too “in it”. You may have been winning, but what bad habits were you tolerating? Where were you losing effectiveness? What elements of your routine didn’t you like?
Now that you’re rebuilding, you’re free to envision a new routine, one where everything is perfectly aligned & optimised for flow. One that’s both effective and fills you with energy. One that you wake up every morning EXCITED and THRILLED to be living. This is a huge opportunity.
Looking at my pre-London routine, I can now see glaring issues that were preventing the maximum expression of my creative abilities. There are 2 specifically:
Falling prey to obligation – Doing things how I thought they “should” be done instead of doing them MY way, exactly how I wanted to do them. Obligation is the enemy of flow. It stifles your energy and creativity, weakens your actions, and disconnects you from your love of the mission. Eliminating obligation = maximising flow = producing your best work.
Failing to prioritise my metabolism – I’m working my way down to 10% bodyfat right now, currently around 14%. Pre-London, I was cutting on 2000kcals a day as a 6ft2, 175lb man. That didn’t seem abnormal, until I came across a girl who weighs 30kg less than me but was maintaining her weight at 2500kcals/day. This discovery led me down the metabolism & bioenergetics rabbit hole, and now i’m working on healing my metabolism and turning it into a blast furnace so I can achieve my goal while simultaneously maximising vitality & life force.
THE POINT: Losing momentum sucks, but it brings a unique opportunity to re-evaluate how you were doing things, and what you could do better. Take advantage.
A key element of this is REFUSING to settle for anything less than the absolute highest outcome. Most people settle for mid energy. They settle for a job they find meaningless. They settle for relationships that provide them just enough but don’t light their souls on fire. I simply refuse.
The highest outcome you can imagine is real & possible. But you’ll never create it until you honour the inner feeling of “this ain’t it” and take control over the process by searching for answers and relentlessly implementing/experimenting with the solutions you discover.
That’s how everything great in my life has come about. Every time i think i’ve maxxed out, the universe shows me I’m wrong. There is ALWAYS another level. But you’ll only go looking for it if you believe it exists.
Step 4: Remind Yourself Who You Are
Losing momentum almost always means getting reacquainted with comfort. It lures you in like an old, toxic friend who knows all your soft spots and weaknesses. In my experience, the BEST way to sever this connection is to “remind yourself who you are”.
In other words, engage in a single act of extreme discomfort. Put your shoes on and run a half marathon with zero training. Cycle in the gym until your lungs give out. Wake up at 6am and work straight until 11pm. Don’t touch techonology for a full day. Complete a 24hr fast. One act of extreme discomfort reminds you of what you’re capable of. It reminds you that you’re someone who can & will do hard things. That you’re infinitely powerful with absolute agency over your life.
What act of extreme discomfort you choose is highly personal and depends what you need. If getting back to a regular exercise routine is easy for you, do something mental like removing all forms of escapism for a week or zero tech for 24hrs. If removing cheap dopamine is easy for you, do something physical.
Remember: this isn’t something you HAVE to do, it’s something you GET to do—a shortcut to reclaiming the mode you were in pre losing momentum.
Step 5: Activate “Attack Mode”
When you lose momentum, you lose the pattern of thinking that drove you to wake up every day and attack. Why? Because we go back to “default mode”. Humans don’t default to attacking, and we’re not wired for abundance. We’re wired to acquire just enough resources to survive and reproduce. That’s it. Attacking ambitious goals, attempting to acquire abundant resources, and taking huge risks are UNNATURAL endeavours that go AGAINST your wiring. That’s why most people don’t.
Re-activating “attack mode” means altering your habitual pattern of thinking. There are 2 parts to this:
Shooting down negative thoughts
Self coaching
Shooting down negative thoughts = refusing to entertain any thought that makes you weaker or less capable. “I can’t do this”, “I’m not good enough”, “I’m so unlucky”, blah blah blah. SHOOT THEM DOWN. Deny them access to your mind. Refuse them to entertain them even for a second.
“But what if they’re true”—understand, every thought in your mind is both TRUE and FALSE, in the sense that you make things true by the extent to which you identify with them. If you think “I can’t do this” and you BELIEVE it, you will fail. If you REJECT it, and continue searching for a way you CAN do it, you’re still in the game and stand a chance of winning.
How do you do this? You become more aware of the automatic thoughts in your mind. Spend time in silence, relax your focus, and see what comes up. When you sit down to work, pause for a couple minutes and identify what thoughts appear. When you’re deciding what to eat, do the same. The more you practice being AWARE of the automatic thoughts in your mind, the easier it’ll be to spot negative thoughts and shoot them down. This is especially important in key moments e.g. starting to work, making a big decision, etc.
If you’re not motivated to do this, understand that a person who is NOT aware of their unconscious thoughts is a slave to them. ARE YOU A SLAVE? No, exactly. This is the first step to reclaiming control over your mind.
The second step is self coaching. The coaching INDUSTRY is exploding right now, all because people don’t understand they can just coach themselves (and you actually have the best advice for YOU, because you know everything about yourself & your situation).
This is so fcking simple. You simply tell yourself what you need to hear in any given moment. If you’re feeling doubt, HYPE YOURSELF UP. If you feel tired and don’t want to do the thing, talk yourself into doing it. If you’re not sure how to complete a task, talk yourself through a process of finding a method. It’s that simple, but you have to remember to do it or else you’ll succumb to the whims of your mind.
This is the 5th and final step to reclaiming your momentum. When you have momentum, you don’t need to worry about this. The wind at your back is literally pushing you to take the correct actions and think the right thoughts. You’ve developed and “locked in” the correct habits and all you need to do is not flinch. When you LOSE momentum, the battle is renewed, and your mind will play all manner of tricks on you to pull you further AWAY from the path, towards comfort (a.k.a. death). You have to fight back.
The Guilt/Shame Trap
Building momentum is a series of battles you win or lose against yourself. These battles are a product of the schism between your CONSCIOUS INTENTIONS and DEFAULT MODE. For example, let’s say your conscious intention is to complete 2 hours deep work, but your default mode wants to scroll Instagram. The battle = which one you choose. Every time you win one of these battles, you regain an inch of momentum.
But here’s the thing: in the process of rebuilding, you WILL lose battles. And the worst thing you could possibly do in this scenario is allow yourself to feel guilt or shame for “failing yourself”. Why? Because guilt and shame put you in a negative emotional state, and negative emotional states deplete your energy and willpower, increasing the likelihood of losing future battles.
When you lose a battle, instead of getting down about it, ask yourself WHY. What happened? What was my thought process immediately before taking this action? How did I rationalise it to myself? Once you’ve figured it out, you’re armed with the self knowledge you need to make a different choice next time.
Like I said in the section on consciously choosing to attack, the more aware you are of the habitual patterns of thought that lead to undesirable behaviour, the easier it’ll be to identity them IN THE MOMENT. And when you can identify your thoughts in the moment, you can detach from them and make a conscious choice. This is a process. It takes time. But it’s the most rewarding work you’ll ever do.
Who Told You It Was Gonna Be Easy?
Building momentum is not easy. Rebuilding momentum is not easy. Nothing about achieving mouth watering success and making your ancestors proud is easy. And in realising that, you may release yourself from worrying that you’re not where you “should” be right now or that you’re “behind”.
Any concept of where you “should” be is literally a figment of your imagination, and entirely irrelevant in the pursuit of unleashing your spirit and creating a life of abundance and glory. This is YOUR life, YOUR path, YOUR mission. You have a unique set of circumstances and life experiences that’ve brought you to this point. Feeling like you’re “behind” is akin to spitting in the face of the universe that’s brought you this far.
Every experience and trial you’ve been put through has been for your own benefit, even if you can’t see it yet. Every painful moment, every heartbreak, every betrayal has been a catalyst for the exact thing you needed, need, or will need on this great adventure. You must lean into FAITH that everything is playing out exactly how it’s supposed to, with one caveat:
You will always be given whatever experience you need in order to learn the lesson you need to learn to reach the next level. Your ONLY responsibility is learning the lesson and acting according to the “highest truths” you’re aware of based on your own past experience. If you don’t learn the lesson, you will be given failure after failure as the universal forces attempt to teach you something fundamental that you NEED. So release any notion of where you “should” be. Embrace where you are. Figure out what you don’t know, and more importantly, what you DO know that you’re not acting upon.
Every answer you need in order to ascend in life lies at the edge of doing everything you KNOW you should be doing. Once you’re acting in accordance with ALL the highest truths you’re aware of, the next one will be revealed. That’s all you need to focus on. Double down on what you know. Double down on out-filling the position you’re in. Double down on faith and trust in yourself and something higher. And use that powerful energy to RECLAIM your winning streak a.k.a. Your birthright to a higher existence.
